Minus 20lbs: Days Six, Seven, Eight, Nine & Ten

Day Six and Seven: Saturday, October 24 and Sunday, October 25, 2015

This weekend was my bridge to the start of my Master Cleanse. So, I might have engaged the “Cheat Shit” a little bit more. Well, my excuse [and I should really put those to rest], “I still took juices and liquids, no solids and no hard carbs.” I made a smoothies for child and I, with grapefruit, apples, blueberries, pineapples with mango juice and water. I still drunk plenty of water with lemon and tea….StrApPineBerries Smoothie

I made child pancakes, made him meals with chicken, avocado, yams and watched him eat. I love avocado so much that I failed to control myself, so I made avocado puree for myself. I had a cup of almond milk for dinner.

The weekend went well! I had to skip the “Open Day” celebrations at my local gym because there was food involved. I did not wanna get tempted to eat. Though my stomach is also scared of starting to consume heavy meals, after a while without solid food. Last time I checked, I was 2 lbs more than I had been Friday.

Day Eight: Monday, October 26, 2015

This is the second week of my “Diet to Body Cleansing” period. It is also my first day of the Master Cleanse, which I am planning to do for a couple of days. Hopefully, I will get through. I want to get through with it. I want to do it for me. I know I have strong stamina, the courage to succeed, withstand so much temptation.

I want to re-learn to control myself from eating. There is a lot of food temptation. There is so much easy food I could eat. I am putting off dates, cranberries, avocado, oranges, yams, potatoes, popcorn, veggie burgers, chocolate. I am also putting off drinking any hot cocoa. I am putting off everything.

Today, was all about 24 ounces of mixed freshly squeezed lemon juice, cayenne pepper, maple syrup grade B and lukewarm water early morning. Nothing in the day, and then another 24 ounces of the same in the afternoon, as Child was having dinner. I had another 18 ounces of warm water without the mixture.

I forgot and used very warm water for mixing, which is not a good idea because, as they say, it ruins the enzymes. I also forgot and kept the other half of lemon in the fridge. Once again, not a good idea, because the cold in the fridge kills the enzymes in the lemon. So, I hope I remember to keep the halves out on the shelf.

The day did not go very well. I wonder, if it had to do with the family news broadcasted to me this weekend, or too much hunger! I stayed to myself. My energy was so down the entire day, until I went to Child’s Tang Soo Do, and draggingly spoke to momma-friend.

Fortunately, I was able to get through with the day, and stayed clear of any temptation to touch anything outside the regimen. Not even a taste of apple source, when child was eating!

Day Nine: Tuesday, October 27, 2015

This was my first morning of the Sea Salt Water Flush, the yuckiest part of this Master Cleanse. It does not taste pretty, at all! 32 ounces of this dreadful drinkup! But I have to do it, to flush out the impurities that stay after the Master Cleanse goes to manufacture energies for the body.

But, it works the magic. In fact, I hear sporadic stomach growling during the day, because of the salt still infused in my body. Though, I did not have the recommended sea salt – non-iodized. So, I am gonna head to the store and get me some.

After the sea salt flush, I had my first Master Cleanse mixture, as recommended, which also helped flush out more. Instead of doing many glasses of the Master Cleanse, I am drinking warm water with lemon. First, I do not want to buy too much Maple Syrup Grade B because it is so expensive. Two, I do not really like the master cleanse, either. It does not taste too good.

I am gonna buy some laxative teas as well, to smooth up the stomach.

Perhaps the easiest day so far! Temptation to eat attacked me a few times, but hunger was very far from my stomach! In fact, the least temptations to eat I have had so far. Yet, my kitchen had avocado, boiled eggs, oat cereal, apple sauce, all the things I would tempted to have. But, all I did was be a good mother, and left the yummy eats to him.

I got the non-iodized sea salt, thankfully. Just hit me, I forgot to buy any laxative teas. But I had the non-caffeine lemon-ginger tea. Hopefully, that too is acceptable. I had another Master Cleanse mixture in the evening after Child came back from school, while he ate his dinner.

After Tang Soo Do class, I gave child an Icy, and he tempted me to taste, to which I swiped my tongue. Well, I didn’t have the courage to tell him once again, in the same day that, I am body cleansing. But that’s all the temptation I succumbed to for the day. I drank my 25 ounces of warm water for the day. It was a great day!

Just to recap, I am Body Cleansing to lose weight, while detoxing my body of all the nastiness I have subjected it for the last three years! I want to wear my clothes the way I used to. I want to look at myself and see my previous body. I want to run with the body I know. I want to feel myself again. I slide down the scale one less pound. I still have plenty to go, from the way my clothes fit.

Day Ten: Wednesday, October 28, 2015

Still going strong. Did my Sea Salt Flush this morning. The yuckiest drink, EVER! Seems I did not add enough salt. So, I gotta top it up tomorrow, I guess. Or, could it be, there is not so much to flush out.

So, I immediately followed it with Master Cleanse, to pump up the Flush. It worked; I guess! I sat on our “unPort-a-Jones” for a while…and did some releasing.

Quite a tempting day, I must say. Had to gulp down two extra 26 ounces of warm water with caffeine-free additives, because I was near tempted to eat. Especially when child came back with an unfinished Black Bean burger from school. Typically, I would eat his leftovers, instead of disposing it over. I do not waste food; I detest wasting food. But I resisted it this time, and simply packed it and put it in the freezer for later consumption.

I did not have any of the smoothie I made child for breakfast: strawberries, blueberries, apples and pineapple. I love fruits, but I cannot imagine I am holding myself back. Seems to be paying off.

My last consumption was another 24 Ounces of Master Cleanse, while Child was eating his snack or special treat of Chocolate Ice…Non-GMO, of course. This time, he did not offer me to taste, and I was ok with that.

I did not weigh in yesterday. It totally feels different to go to bed feeling less bulky, although my clothes are not there yet. I can feel the fitting. But I know, we will get here; sometime soon! And hopefully, stay there, this time. I do not wanna pack on this load, again.

I am saying Goodbye starting immediately. I do not need you! I have never needed you! I am going on a Diet.

Before you say,

1) What do you wanna lose, bones?

Well, what the scale and my eyes see, don’t lie.

2) But you look great just the way you are!

That’s your opinion, which [or not so fit] of my clothes lets me feel and know otherwise.

3) But diets don’t work!

Again, so you think! It has worked for me before! And I am gonna do what I know best.

Yes, I have dieted before, and my kind of dieting helps get me back into my comfortable body shape, and healthy mind and soul.

Then again, “Why I am making a public statement about my dieting to lose weight?” you may ask.

Perhaps then, I will be accountable to not just myself, but the watching public. I will probably not go vainly, posting every inch I lose onto Instagram. But at the back of my head, in my face and mouth, I will remember there is a world out there watching me, and waiting to see those 12 pounds drop off one after the other.  Plus, nobody I encounter is not gonna make me eat, knowing I am on a diet.

You see, I am a social eater; I eat because others are eating, and because I do not want to throw away food, “It is not good for the environment or a humane caring society”…[ blah blah blah].

Once I told my son, “You have to eat all your food because there are plenty of people in the world without food.” His response, “If they do not have food, give them mine.”

I wish it was that easy, son….I wish it was that easy!

Instead, I am the depository of everyone else’s food. I eat because I have to feed Child of Mine. I eat when others offer me food, even when I am not hungry. I eat because the kids I am feeding do not eat all their food, and I do not want it thrown in the garbage. Then I eat perhaps because I am worried the food will go bad, if it is not consumed in an ample period [a week for leftovers is too much!]

Even though I typically cook for one child, I have the tendency to make more than one meal. But COM does not usually want to eat the same food the day after, unless of course it is his special treat….one of those specials like Mac & Cheese, “the yummy peanut stew and white stuff”, or our newly-found Malanga Coco. How he loves that! How scared I am to make them now, when I am fasting!

But give him ‘shrooms’ or onions or stuff like that, and I will have to wipe his plate clean, in my spirit of “saving the planet.” And since I do not want to force all of my eating preferences on COM, sometimes I buy him some “special treats”, like honey to drop in his tea, Mac & Cheese, Icy’s, Hot Dogs, and waffles. Once in a while a slice of pizza!

I am not a bread person, though I may partake of a waffle or my homemade pancakes. And, may I dare say, tempt a slice of pizza, to ‘hang with him’!

Interestingly, all these foods used to be “no-go” for me, back when life was still about me, and I kept a very vegetable and fruits diet! I now console myself that, “They are all “O”rganic, certified NON GMO, or gluten-free and vegetarian! But calories don’t lie!Biko's special treats

And calories really loved me, especially in the summer when I have more than one mouth to feed While many bodies are “bikini-” and “beach-ready”, mine is a fat suit! COM’s cousins usually come over and spend the entire summer with us. So, I cook for the clan, around the clock, feeding them, and partake [un] willingly and uncontrollably.

I make popcorn, and eat with the kids, cut watermelon, and eat with the kids, make hotdogs, and tempt myself to eat half or one, with the kids. Snack, lunch and dinner for the kids with the kids.

Moreover, I take on the responsibility of “wiping the plates clean” of all the kids’ unfinished food. My tongue enjoys it all, but my body suffers tremendously. While my children are happy that I saved them of their food, my gut keeps shifting outward [I can feel it], as my soul shifts into sadness. Alas!

I am now saying, no more, no more no more! I know it is hard, very hard to say no, and stay on a diet while the central feature in the kitchen! Trust me, I have tried a couple of times, then retreated to “happy eating”.

It was much easier when I was single, without Child of Mine. Now I have a constant mouth to feed and have meals with.

And how can I make meals and not taste the food for the spice, the temperature, or if it is [under]cooked? I am a real Muganda; my eyes are in my mouth [Is that the saying…?:)…].

I have been officially certified as the best chef in the world, by my household. I turn simple ingredients into magical meals! All the works of my hand taste golden in the consuming mouths. I am the one to beat, when it comes to cooking from scratch. Name anything, I’ll hook you up.

So here I am, on Day One. Watching, as COM eats the corn I just popped. Our favorite snack! But I cannot have any of it. He even tried to share with me his fruit pop, but I had to tell him that I am on diet.

Then, I had to make him dinner, with my favorite ingredients, mushrooms, purple onion, scallions and garlic. Oh I am so hungry! But I had to keep drinking the water, with lemon and ginger.

All I consumed was my lemon and ginger water, Lemon and Ginger Water…and More Lemon and Ginger Water. Ok, it’s about time I went to bed…If I can fall asleep!

This first week, I am just gonna do water, lemon and ginger. Next week, I will start on the Master Cleanse. Yes! It worked for me when I did it…I was single..But I like it, because it is a cleanse-dieting, that drains out all the crappy foods from the system.

I have been abusing my body for a while; I need to put my act together. Strategically now, after running my last marathon of the year, when I do not have to consume extra calories to fuel my body. I don’t care that winter is coming, I will fuel it with a large coat! Don’t need the extra energy now, though I will keep exercising.

Master Cleanse, here we come! The Cayenne Pepper, Lemons, Maple Syrup Grade B, and water, will get a little sugar injected into the system for energy, Cleaner than consuming water, lemon and honey. Add to that, the “sea salt flush” every morning, the extra cleanser of impurities from the system.

So, watch me as I go 12 pounds down!

No! I Do Not Like Green Eggs. Gimme Yellow….

Perhaps nothing better illustrates my commitment to eating all-Natural and Organic with a Capital “O”, like the color I want my eggs. And I have a couple of things “Natural” that I believe in – Natural health remedies and regimens, Natural exercising and fitness, Natural childbirth, Natural sleep patterns, Natural living, most importantly my Natural foods and drinks.

Let me also clarify that I am committed to beer. Nothing comes closer to “Natural” than the “Brown Amber Nectar”! All fermented, with all natural spring water, and all germs killed. Right! Ok. maybe I am biased, but I’ll stick to that.

N’way, back to my eggs. I am the typical fruits and veggies eater. I love and enjoy my fruits and veggies. I do not buy meat, do not fall for that temptation. Nothing against meat per se. Then and again, I may eat meat, all kinds of meat, by social co-option. Not really a chicken and turkey person, unless it is “Tofurky.

Thankfully, I have plenty of meat substitutes when I need it, -tofu, eggplant or beets, plus meatless burgers, sausages, patties and meatballs. Of course not to forget an abundance of veggies -tomatoes, bell peppers, zucchini, squash, cucumber, the list goes on. I take great care to shop in the “Healthy”, “Organic” and “Natural” food section in our grocery store, spending a little more to get the finest foods.

Truth be told, I cut myself some slack on fruits and veggies, purchasing some without the “O” tag, like apples, strawberries, avocados, pears, grapes, to save a buck or two. Well, that is because I failed to find a difference in taste between the “certified “Os” and non-O among this category of my main fruit and veggie shopping. Strawberries, whether certified “O” or “Non-O ” the same tasteless buds to my tongue. Avocado O or non-O certified has the same yummy taste, and so do apples, pineapples and pears I have had. So, I cannot justify spending more money for the same taste or look.

But there is no alternative to Yellow eggs! Nothing! I don’t care whether your eggs comes straight from the farm to you, yours are free range, all-natural, whatever. If they are not yellow, I am not having them, no more!

See, I grew up with chickens in my farming family. No! We were not farmers by profession, but like most families then, we grew our own food and kept a few chickens in small coops. These chickens were free-range; they woke themselves up in the morning, left for the day to wander off into places, and returned late in the evening to sleep. They found their own food, except a few times we gave them leftovers from our food. For the most part, they did not find ‘fertilized foods’ in their food hunt, but worms, leftover foods, bugs, anything and everything wandering or lying around on the ground.

When the girl-chickens, aka hen came home to lay their eggs, which were always yellow! Later, we began seeing white “eggs”, bought from grocery stores. The chicken meat got bigger too; and bigger! We started calling the hens that lay Yellow eggs, the “local” hens, meaning they are native to the county [well, each geographical region claimed those hens. Their meat was tough, too. We called the hens with “White” eggs, Mzungu hens or “White Hens, implying they were foreign/exotic or originating from the world of [western] white people. The meat of the white chickens was soft, as well.

Fast forward, this child moves to America and all there is in abundance are the “white hens and chickens”, fat, with tender meat, and boil too quick. Given my low chicken tolerance, I did not develop a love for them. Moreover, all the stories about, how chickens in America are injected with growth hormones, with chemicals not exactly healthy for human consumption, deterred me from venturing into eating chicken. With that, follows my selectivity for the eggs I consume.

I buy my eggs with labels that they are “free-range”, organic feed and naturally fertilized. I will pay an extra penny to get the most health eggs. I will not care that you get your eggs direct from the farm; not every farmer uses organic products. I will tolerate the fact that my eggs might be transported a distance away from my geographical zone, a distance from my neighborhood grocery store. For as long as they are Yellow;

That’s right….It is the Rice Cake…my son’s [paternal] grandma’s favorite snack. She likes them too much. Fortunately, I have rejected the taste of them on my tongue even when my son put it on my mouth. I knew there was something to it, like most  American processed snacks. They are too good to be true. 
 
For one thing, I am so proud of myself. I go to the grocery store, and walk through those aisles with colored juices and processed foods without picking any ONE of them! It is empowering to resist all the temptations of picking up a bag of chips, plantain peanuts, granola bars, chocolate bars, alphabets, a large bag of frozen french fries (at ONLY $2.99) and all of that I call “junk” And they are available everywhere – healthy and regular aisles! Instead, I stuff up on fresh veggies and fruits, 100% juice (but I might be suspending some of it), fresh salmon, eggs, a couple of meatless frozen dishes, oat and corn cereal, almond milk, coconut and soy yogurt (taking a break from Almond yogurt) and canned beans, peas and carrots and garbanzo chick peas. I will not tell you what my bill comes up to. But, think “twice”, what it takes to feed healthy decisions for a family of two. But, eating health is way not under a $100 bill.  Still, I try the best I can to eat as health as possible, shouldering the cost. It is a smart investment, for myself and my son.
 
I have a five-year old, who needs to grow up with the value of “eating healthy”. I have boasted several times that I homemade ALL my his meals when he started supplementing breastfeeding with solids at six months. I boiled or grilled carrots, squash, peas, apples, plums. Then pureed each on its own to make meals for my son, which I would then froze, and serve whenever he was ready to eat. Since then, I started out on a strict diet for him, primarily vegetarian. I am not much of a meat eater, but don’t be surprised to catch me enjoying a piece or two in places where meat is a routine. Plus, he was lactose and wheat intolerant, and got lots of hardship constipation, and restless days and sleepless nights. Not even prune juice, plums and tomato juice broke it easily.  Plus, because American food is rather bad by international standards- I kept most of it away from him. Yet, my dietary routine for my son and I suffers peer and social pressure. Depending on where we are, we might not be able to get certain things and have to supplement. In South Africa, we could not easily find Soy yogurt, except a very small stock in Woolworths, when in was available. So, baby had to adjust to cow milk yogurt. In Uganda, it was predominantly cow milk yogurt, so we settled for the “nutritional content”. In fact, there is so much eating I can really control, especially when I leave my son in the hands of child minders at home, at the neighbors and at school.
 
 In Norway, he ate his first meatballs in Norway at the daycare, even though I had told then that my son does not eat meatballs. In Uganda, he had plenty of bread and had sugar added to his tea, even though I laid down the script from the start of our arrival in the country. But my objections got “lost in translation”.  I could not help it! So, I made up the excuse was, it was all natural and fresh food, except for a few times I took him out to enjoy American food. Yes! We had our outings at Javas Cafe or Endiro Coffee – the latter being the favorite! for the most part, he fed on corn and millet. Tried to keep rice at a distance – but my family has a different take on eating. They are not into fastidious  “organic”, GMO, fat and no unnecessarily food color eating. Typical of many places around the world that  tend to associate imported processed foods as “better than local”. Think  how well Coca Cola thrives internationally with all its food coloring, caffeine, over and above water – the most healthy natural drink!. 
 
Which brings me back to rice cakes and gluten free. So, does it mean that, if it is not wheat it is ok? because it is Gluten or fat-free or less fat, then it is supposedly healthy? My son’s grandmother tends to think so. Well, I do not buy into it….and turns out, my suspicions were right on the Rice Cakes. –good for nothing kinda food. So, I will stick to making my own meals or making sure my purchases are too far from these “eat-quick-easy options”. They are harmful to your body and blood system…and can get so addictive. Plus, I will get all my nutrients from fresh and healthy eating. Just because we are back to America with its plenty of options and quick fixes don’t mean we should start consuming it all. Even if it says “gluten free”, I still check on the content table…to make sure the ingredients and nutritional content is right…. and so should you!w
